Venomous Indian lionfish spotted for the first time along Mumbai’s coast.
Rare black wild dog (Dhole) spotted in Sahyadri Tiger reserve after 90 years. The last documented sighting of a melanistic dhole was back in 1936 near Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. British naturalist R.C. Morris had recorded it then.
In its bid to reduce human-wildlife conflicts, the forest and wildlife department of Uttar Pradesh is establishing four modern rescue centres. These centres will manage the increasing encounters between people and large carnivores, including tigers, leopards, and jackals. Rescue centres are being built in the Hastinapur Wildlife Sanctuary (Meerut), Pilibhit Tiger Reserve, Sohagibarwa Wildlife Sanctuary (Maharajganj), and Ranipur Wildlife Sanctuary (Chitrakoot).
Manas National Park has added another cat species in its long list. Rare and elusive Asiatic Golden Cat has been rediscovered in Manas National Park recently.
A New Jewel in the Crown: *Euthalia malaccana, a rare butterfly, has been officially recorded for the first time in India at Lai Ho, Leparada in Arunachal Pradesh. This remarkable discovery has been made by two young Lepidopterists.
Siamese Fireback, Thailand’s national bird Siamese Fireback, Thailand’s national bird, known for its vivid look. Its metallic feathers shimmer in the sunlight. With a grey body and bright red beak, it moves gracefully. The bird is usually found in the forests of Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam. This shy but beautiful bird has been spotted for the first time in forests of Ranikhet, Uttarakhand India.
Recent study has found that almost 68 percent of Snow Leopard in India are concentrated in Ladakh. Their numbers are around 477 out of a total 709 found in Himalayan range of India

Wildlife in India has been more known for because of popular national parks of North and Central India like- Kanha, Bandhavgarh, Pench, Ranthambore and Corbett. In between these parks one can see the Big Five of The Indian Wildlife from North and Central India, namely, The Asiatic Elephant, The Gaur, The Leopard, The Royal Bengal Tiger, The Sloth Bear. India added 557 new species to its count, which includes 407 new species & 150 new records. This brings its faunal species to 1,02,718 named species of animals. India has over 350 species of mammals and over 1225 forms of birds, some of them are endemic to India only. Some of the unique species found in India are Golden Langur, Namdapha flying squirrel, Lion tailed macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Nilgiri Tahr, Flying Squirrel, Malabar Grey Hornbill, Asiatic Lion, Nilgai, the Spiral Horned Black Buck, the four horned Chausingha.

India, one of the 12 megadiversity countries, is very rich in biodiversity. Over 1200 species of birds comprising at least 13 % of the world’s birds are found in India. Biogeographically, India is situated at the tri-junction of three realms namely Afro-tropical, Indo-Malayan and Paleo-Arctic realms, and therefore, has characteristic elements from each of them.
