After almost 3 year break we are all looking forward to start our travels and exploring new places, new sites. The minimized human activity inadvertently proved to be a blessing for nature, giving it a chance to recuperate and heal itself.

What's Latest in Indian Wildlife?

New Discoveries - More on sightings!

Information featured here is an Ode to numerous Scientists and Researchers of India as well from other part of world, who are working Day and night in discovering new species and making us proud of our natural wealth.

Most of the discoveries were made in the year 2020 but 2021 also brought exciting news. A new species of snake, the Himalayan Kukri, was discovered. A new species of squirrel, the Tibetan Wolly Flying Squirrel was discovered. A new record was made after 25 years of a species from the Laughing Thrush family-Mount Victoria Babax. Recently a sighting of an Endangered Gharial in the River Brahmaputra indicates the resilience of nature.

In March 2022 a new record of sighting of a rare bird for Delhi NCR was made by a group of birders- A Non-breeding Male Brambling normally seen in Europe or in India in higher reaches of the Himalayas like in Kashmir, Himachal and nearer to Delhi in hills above Doon Valley.

Quite recently in the year 2024:

Asiatic Golden Cat has been rediscovered in Manas National Park

Two rare snake species discovered in Dudhwa National Park. One, Painted Keelback seen in U.P after 117 years. Second, Brown Vine Snake which has never been seen earlier.

A new species of orchid, named Crepidium assamicum, has been discovered in Assam’s Dibru-Saikhowa National Park, adding a new chapter to the global biodiversity of orchids.

Two new spider species have been discovered in the Western Ghats, a very important biodiversity hotspots. Last one of this particular species was seen around 118 years ago.

With very strong conservation efforts by the National and State organizations, many areas are discovering return of wildlife which were not seen there since last couple of decades. In Chhatisgarh, Barnawapara Wildlife Sanctuary has a young tiger as its guest. This sanctuary had no record of tiger sighting since last 4 decades.

Talking about nature’s resilience, Gangetic dolphins have made a comeback after a gap of nearly 30 years in river Ganges in a stretch of around 100 kms in and around Patna.

INDIA BIRDING

India, one of the 12 megadiversity countries, is very rich in biodiversity. Over 1200 species of birds comprising at least 13 % of the world’s birds are found in India. Biogeographically, India is situated at the tri-junction of three realms namely Afro-tropical, Indo-Malayan and Paleo-Arctic realms, and therefore, has characteristic elements from each of them. This assemblage of three distinct realms probably is a fact which is believed to partly account for its rich & unique birdlife. Also read & view the  latest birding Trip Report.

    Dear Manoj,

We wanted to give you a feedback on our trip to India. Finally we found the time to write it.

It’s been an amazing experience, everything has been organized excellent. All the drivers were very friendly, always in time andmade us feel save on busy streets.

We loved the different national parks and had various sightings: 6 tigers, 2 leopards, 4 sloth bears, 4 fourhorned antilopes, 2 giant squirells, many gharials, 1 giant flying squirrel and so much more.

The hotels were well chosen, we liked all of them. We do understand why you recommended Svasara at Tadoba, it really is a very beautiful place, rooms were very nice, and food was delicious.

If everything works out, we will get in touch with you again very soon to plan these four weeks in India.

Thank you very much for organizing this very special trip. We had an amazing time.

    Best regards,

  • Matthias Dopfer

    Dear Mr. Sharma,

we would like to thank you for the excellent organisation of our trip to india. Everything worked very well and there were no problems during this journey at all.

    Thank you for that again.

We also would like to express our contentment with our driver Mr. Harrish, based in Nagpur . He was our driver between Orchha and Nagpur for at least nine days. In this time we got him to know as a really nice and caretaking person. He is a very secure driver and we always felt very comfortable with him. He was always in time and really concerned about our welfare.

Due to his competences we highly recommend him, especially for long-time drives.

    Yours sincerely,

All enjoyable, a tourist needs a positive attitude in India, it is a big experience that some would find daunting but our transfers etc were so smooth they made it easy.

Accommodations … Great variety of places all special in their own way.

Very good cars for the transfers.

Escorts great.. tour guides great, some of the park guides were a little too focused on tiger.

Overall…one of the best holidays I have had.

    Dear Manoj,

Thank you for your X-Mas wishes.

The trip to India was such a fantastic experience and we are delighted that we saw not only the tiger, but so manyother animals and fantastic sceneries.

We especially want to thank you for your splendid organization and control of all the details that made the trip so easy-going. We are absolutely delighted and spend our days in Paris watching, and showing family and friends, the thousands of pictures we brought back.

We send you some pictures. Perhaps you can give us the name of the animal on which you made us visit the market 😉

The 2 others are from a snow-free Paris in X-mas time.
We wish you a Happy New Year to you, Kartk and your family.
